Hey Friends,
I’m not sure how to start this newsletter. I’ve thought about it off and on, but could never find the right words. I have been through a tough year. As you know, if you are subscribed here, I lost my dog Lailah at the beginning of the year, and then I didn’t write another newsletter until right now.
I’m sorry you haven’t heard from me in so long. It wasn’t intentional, but sometimes there are no words for what you’re going through, and you have to navigate them in your own way.
It seemed like I was just recovering from my Grandmother’s death late last year when Lailah passed in January. Although I don’t think recover is the right word, as I don’t think you can recover from loss. It stays with you, at least in my experience. At the same time, my Dad was in a bad way with cancer, and things were not looking good for him. In April, we found out it was terminal, and then at the end of July, he passed away. This is the first time losing a parent for me, and these are uncharted waters. For those who have lost a parent, you probably know how I feel, and I send you my biggest hugs and condolences. Here is one of my favorite pictures with my Dad. Bonus points to whoever guesses which one is me correctly. 🙂

Writing has always been an escape for me, and my character just so happened to be struggling with her own loss of a parent, and I’ve found it’s been therapeutic to go through things with her. I believe my own experience will make this book even more authentic and endearing than it might have been. And to those who have gone through something similar, perhaps it will bring comfort that you are not alone in all this.
As for the book, it has had two previous versions, which I was not happy with, as you know from previous newsletters. However, the third time is the charm. This is the story I wanted to tell, and it’s finally coming together. In fact, I am about to embark on the last act, so the end is near.
I hope to be on a more regular schedule from this point forward, barring any other disasters, so you should be hearing from me monthly again with more bookish news. For those of you who like to follow me on social media, I realize I have been remiss there as well, and you should find me over there posting updates and snippets from life from here forward. If you would like to follow me, you can find me at @gcrownson on most platforms. Or you can click the links below to take you to them.
Here is to better days ahead, filled with happier times and lots of good books to get lost in. And boy, do I really need that.
I will see you in December, hopefully with much more news on my current book project. Fingers crossed, it will be in editing stages by then, and I can give you many more hints about what is to come.
Thank you for sticking by me and being such wonderful readers through all this.
Love Always,
Genevieve
